About Us

Join us as a Platform Engineer (m/f/d) and be an integral part of our Infrastructure & Operations (IO) department, which forms the backbone of Nitrado. We aim to provide a highly available and scalable infrastructure that delivers seamless experiences to millions of gamers worldwide.

Your Team & Focus

You will enhance our Platform Team within IO, responsible for our internal hosting platforms for containers and virtual machines. Your role will ensure stability and security of our platform services, utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to maintain flexibility akin to cloud environments.

Key Technologies

You'll work with technologies such as Kubernetes (Rancher), Ceph, Prometheus/VictoriaMetrics, HashiCorp Vault, and a KVM-based VM platform, demanding deep Linux troubleshooting expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance our on-prem Kubernetes clusters via Rancher, ensuring their stability, security, and continuous updates.
  • Optimize our metrics infrastructure (e.g., Prometheus/VictoriaMetrics) through tuning, alerting, and retention management.
  • Ensure high availability for services like Grafana, Harbor, and HashiCorp Vault.
  • Manage our storage solutions (Ceph and/or Linstor), overseeing capacity planning, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop our KVM-based VM platform, automate provisioning, and ensure efficient resource distribution.
  • Oversee our logging environment (e.g., OpenSearch) from ingestion to index management.
  • Troubleshoot issues methodically, addressing them on Linux/VM, network, storage, or application levels.
  • Eliminate manual efforts via automation and standardization (e.g., runbooks and IaC).
  • Collaborate with dev teams on platform issues, ensuring smooth deployments and operations.

Requirements

  • Several years of experience in infrastructure or platform operations (e.g., as a DevOps/Platform Engineer).
  • Advanced skills in administering and troubleshooting production Linux environments.
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes, ideally on-prem.
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring/metrics (Prometheus and/or VictoriaMetrics).
  • Experience with container registries (e.g., Harbor) and common container/Helm workflows.
  • Familiarity with Vault (or similar secrets solutions) and distributed storage solutions like Ceph or Linstor.
  • Structured approach to work, proficiency with ticket systems like Jira, and excellent communication skills.

Benefits

  • Free Nitrado game servers and a welcoming community for everyone, whether a gamer or not.
  • Flexible working hours to balance personal needs and professional life.
  • Remote work opportunities from anywhere, or in our modern offices in Karlsruhe or Berlin.
  • Work from Abroad options to expand your workspace globally.
  • Annual Mental Health Day for your mental wellbeing.
  • State-of-the-art office with ergonomic design and generous support for home office furniture.
  • Continuous development through professional training and courses.
  • Pension scheme with an attractive company contribution.
  • A friendly and respectful work environment with a family-like company culture.
  • 30 days of vacation and additional paid leave for special occasions.
  • International collaboration, overcoming time zones and language barriers.
  • Team building events, sports activities, and company parties.
