The Brandenburg State Office for Monument Preservation and the State Archaeological Museum (BLDAM) is a specialist authority that combines statewide expertise in archaeological and building preservation research, protection and preservation of monuments, as well as their public presentation and mediation.
For the Archaeological Department, Archaeological State Museum Division, Scientific Collections Unit, Archaeobiology, and Object Documentation, based in the historically significant barracks and bunker city of Zossen, OT Wünsdorf, we are looking for an Archaeozoologist (m/f/d) starting on September 1, 2026.
This is a full-time position (currently 40 hours/week), level EG 13 TV-L.
The region of Brandenburg possesses a rich heritage of human, animal, and plant life. Over numerous millennia, the natural and cultural heritage has been subject to various influences.
The Scientific Collections Unit, Archaeobiology, and Object Documentation research and catalogue archaeobiological evidence. The unit is also actively involved in developing research projects on current issues and networking with both national and international university and non-university partners.
Archaeozoology focuses on the scientific examination of animal remains and other faunal relics. This includes the expansion and management of scientific collections and the development of specialized databases.
Your Responsibilities
- Documenting, cataloguing, researching, and communicating the archaeozoological collections
- Participating in select archaeological preservation measures
- Supervising team members
- Participating in the training and further education of volunteers, students, and honorary representatives
- Designing and implementing projects
- Participating in the organization and hosting of conferences and workshops
- Publishing and disseminating scientific findings (in German and English)
- Contributing to the scientific development of archaeozoology
- Involvement in exhibition projects
Your Profile
Requirements:
- Completed a scientific university degree in Biology with a focus on Zoology or an equivalent field, minimum M.A. / Master
- Proven advanced scientific work, such as a PhD
- Experience in participating in archaeological projects
- Experience with IT-supported data collection and database management
- Familiarity with current scientific discussions
- Driver's license (Class B) with driving experience
